The disease is easily treatable if caught early, but traditional screening systems are prohibitively expensive, leaving women in low- and middle-income countries without care.

Enter: the pocket colposcope.

Determined to make life-saving screenings accessible, Calla Health designed the pocket colposcope: a lightweight, FDA-approved device that costs a fraction of what traditional devices do, and is more comfortable for the patient.

An app to improve health outcomes for women worldwide.

Calla’s colposcope works by connecting to a smartphone and transmitting screening images via the Calla Health App. Providers can now bring the pocket colposcope with them from clinic to clinic and conduct cervical cancer screenings anywhere in the world, no matter how remote for about 1/10th the cost.

Screening made simple.

The app guides providers through each step of the screening, which has been organized to support patient comfort. A built-in timer lets providers know when to capture images in relation to the application of clinical solvents.

Smart upload queueing to prevent data loss.

Since providers in rural areas are often conducting exams without wifi or cell service, we designed the app to store entered information in a queue, and then automatically transmit it to the central database when a signal is detected. This way providers can rest assured that crucial patient information gets where it needs to go without them having to check on it.

A better experience for patients, providers, and admins.

Calla had an initial version of their app, but it was buggy and difficult to use. We rebuilt their provider and admin apps from the ground up, improving ease of use for physicians, smoothing out the patient experience, and optimizing record organization for admins.

An admin form builder allows each clinic to customize their patient exam processes according to their unique operating procedures.

The color palette, fonts, and styling we selected for the app communicate Calla’s mission to bring life-saving care to women worldwide, improving patient comfort during the process.
